Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET)
CEP: Counseling, Education, & Psychology
Summer 2012
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Amy Pietrowski
This was the first course I took to begin my journey in the MAET program. The course was design to help students understand different theories, introduce new technologies, and the design of goals. During this course I learn about the integration of Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge (TPACK), (Mishra & Koehler, 2006), one of the theories that has been very meaningful for my learning journey and my teaching development. I designed my Personal Growth Plan and my Personal Learning Network. Also, as a group, we worked on a Special Interest Group presentation named The Use of the iPad for Reading Instruction.
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education
Instructor: Jody Spicer
CEP 811 helped me explore and learn new and innovative ways to use technology. It really helped me to develop a creative way of thinking in order for me to apply learned skills and created materials in my classroom. I learned about the Universal Design of Learning, Web Quests, and created a Stand Alone Instructional Resource (StAIR) project that I successfully used in my classroom to review with my students. This course help me understand that teachers need to seek and develop teaching strategies that engage students in the learning process when integrating technology.
Fall 2012
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructor: Carolyn McCarthy
This course helped me understand the importance of using the skills and resources in our hands to be proactive. During the course we worked on two major projects that addressed two issues of matter. The Wicked Problem Project (individual project) addressed a vocabulary issue that I found pertinent to tackle in my school since student's first language is Spanish. The Leadership Project (group project) was developed to help teachers to learn how to create a Weebly website through different tutorials made by each group member.
Spring 2013
CEP 800: Learning in School & Other Settings
Instructor: Danah Henriksen
CEP 800 encouraged me to explore how students understand or interpret information taught. Back then I was a first grade teacher, and I interviewed three first graders about their understanding on the importance of reading and writing. This was a great experience to clearly understand that our students acquire information in different ways. Also, I worked on a digital story telling project and a lesson plan that was tested later on.
CEP 817: Learning Technology Through Design
Instructor: Punya Mishra
Learning Technology Through Design was a very attractive and engaging course. During the course I learned many important aspect about design in general and how to apply them to the educational technology field. The main project of the course was the creation of a web site. For this project, I decided to create a web site to address first grade grammar and phonics skills. I used this web site in my classroom and the results were very positive.
Fall 2013
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Leigh Graves Wolf & Benjamin Gleason
CEP 822 has been one of the most challenges courses I have taken during my MAET journey. This course helped me develop my research skills by creating a research proposal. I focused my proposal on the topic: How does the use of iPads in the classroom affect students' reading development? A literature review was made in order to gather the sufficient information related to the topic. Researching about this topic was very interesting and pertinent.
Spring 2014
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Leigh Graves Wolf, Benjamin Gleason, & Joshua Rosenberg
During this course we explored different leadership styles and we were encouraged to think the way they think. We used Twitter as a tool to share our thoughts on the different leadership styles as part of our learning process. We learn about Hattie's six factors that can affect positively or negatively students' learning process. Also, we prepared a Personal Manifesto which I used to assemble a collection of websites, blogs, books, resources, articles, and videos divided into ten different and meaningful categories in a teacher's job description.
CEP 820: Teaching K-12 Students Online
Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya, & Spencer Greenhalgh
Teaching Students Online made me reflect about the future. What if I need to teach online in the future? Am I prepared for that? How hard would it be? Would I be able to teach Math online? The main project of this course was the creation of a online course. Since I was very curious about how a Math online course would be, I decided to take the challenge. During the course I created a fully online module on addition with regrouping for first to second grade students.
Spring 2015
TC 830: Foundations of Serious Games
Instructor: Carrie Heeter
I am currently taking this course to finish my master's program. This has been another interesting challenge. This course is designed to help game designers, or as my case teachers, to develop games that are appropriate to address an specific issue or problem. Creating serious games require thinking deeply about serious goals.
CEP 807: Proseminar in Educational Technology
Instructors: Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhalgh, Joshua Rosenberg,
Sarah Keenan, & Brittany Dillman
I am currently taking this course as the closure of my journey in the MAET program. This course consists of the creation of a professional e-portfolio (the creation of this web site). At the end of the course the portfolio will provide pertinent information about myself, professional experiences, and my goals. During the course we have been able to provide feedback to our cohort and receiving feedback from them as well, giving space to all students to continue learning from others and continue to develop leadership skills.
